A blog reviewing recent archaeological publications having to do with Paleolithic archaeology, paleoanthropology, lithic technology, hunter-gatherers and archaeological theory.
Everyone and everything's jumping on the World Cup bandwagon, it seems (shot taken while I wasted 6 hours of my life at Paris CdG). It ended well (very well) four years ago, so let's see how it plays out this time around.... BTW, does anyone out there have a recommendation of where to watch the Italy games in Denver with like-minded people?
It looked for a moment or two that New Zealand or Slovakia might lead the group. But all are even. Much joy here when Australia went down 4-0 to Germany. With NZ's draw the headline in the Sydney Morning Herald read, "Australasia 1 - Slovakia 1" Very humourous.
Terry - that is pretty funny! I unfortunately didn't get to catch the NZ-Slovakia game, but I'll definitely be getting up early to see how the NZ-Italy bout ends up on Sunday!
No quibbles from me, you guys earned that draw, the Italians were playing like a bunch of clowns today... and to think I got up early on a Sunday to watch this... ugh!
Anyone would think here that NZ had won the cup. But everyone is giving credit to the Italians for their acting ability. As one commentator put it, 'You could have knocked me over with a feather, and that goes for the Italians too'.
I'm still expecting Italy and Paraguay to go through. The Uruguay striker is the best actor of the tournamnet though. I forget his name although he didn't seem too bad yesterday.
I still reckon Argentina look the best team, certainly so far. But I'm a bit worried. I heard last night that the goal scorer for NZ in the first game claims he prayed before the game. Seems the team is rather a lot that way inclined. What do I do if NZ wins against Paraguay? Start praying? Which god do I pray to?
~grumble.... I guess this goes to show that commenting about football on this blog means your team gets knocked out in the first round. That being the case, go Brazil! :P
Bad luck for your Italians. Brazil look a bit technical this tournament (I know you're hoping they'll be eliminated). I was expecting better of them. And Germany. They seem to always look a bit mechanical but get through somehow. Netherlands too. But the South American teams all look pretty good.
Are you switching to supporting the USA now? At least I'm relieved I don't have to start praying.

I would expect that game to be pretty one-sided, and not in New Zealand's favour.
well, well, well.

Ouch! But let's face it: acting alone can't account for the four stars on the Italian jersey :)

Argentina plays Germany now eh? Could be the best game of the tournament. Two quite different, but excellent, sides.
And I haven't mentioned the Dutch yet. The only team, apart from Argentine, to finish the first round with maximum points.
